Rolling on New Road

Rolling on New Road

Performance|plaster, hemp, etc.

This is a performance work in Tama New Town in Hachioji, Tokyo.

There is a well-maintained sidewalk in this town. The road is a rationally newly created road so that walkers can go to the station without encountering automobiles. People can enjoy running , walking and looking after their children safely there. However, I felt inconvenience to the rationality of this road to release pedestrians from car threats.

I tried to embody a modest freedom on this sidewalk, and walked there with rolling a plaster ball of about 1.5 m in diameter. Brand new plaster ball wears by rolling and eventually collapses. This work is completed by cleaning the marks remaining on the brand new pavement.
