Rolling on New Road

東京都八王子市の多摩ニュータウンの一画にて行ったパフォーマンスです。
この街には、整備された遊歩道があります。この道は合理的な都市計画に基づき作られた道で、歩行者は自動車に遭遇することなく駅まで歩くことができます。ここでは人々が安心してランニングやウォーキングをし、子供たちを遊ばせることができます。しかし、歩行者を車の脅威から解放するこの道の合理性に、私はむしろ不自由さを感じました。
この遊歩道でのささやかな自由を体現しようと思い、私は直径1.5m程の漆喰の大玉を転がして遊歩道を進みました。真新しい漆喰の大玉は転がることによって磨耗し、やがて崩壊します。真新しい舗装の上に残る大玉の跡を掃除することでこの作品は完結します。

This is a performance work in Tama New Town in Hachioji, Tokyo.
There is a well-maintained sidewalk in this town.The road is a rationally newly created road so that walkers can go to the station without encountering automobiles. People can enjoy running , walking and looking after their children safely there. However, I felt inconvenience to the rationality of this road to release pedestrians from car threats.
I tried to embody a modest freedom on this sidewalk, and walked there with rolling a plaster ball of about 1.5 m in diameter. Brand new plaster ball wears by rolling and eventually collapses. This work is completed by cleaning the marks remaining on the brand new pavement.
